Our story begins in the 19th century with Manoel de Souza Rocha, affectionately remembered as the Old Abbot. Serving as the parish priest of São Pedro de Loureiro for 44 years, he was a visionary figure whose dedication and foresight transformed barren land into the productive and treasured estate that surrounds us today.

From Tradition to Renewal
Around 1896, the Old Abbot began a Herculean task: clearing the land, planting new vineyards, and building the walls that define the identity of our property. Acquired from the Order of the Discalced Friars, the estate was born from a respect for the land and the desire to create something lasting.

A Tribute in Every Room
Quinta de Santa Cruz is not just accommodation; it is a living memory of the family. After the Abbot's death in 1915, the property was managed by Cândida, the mother of his youngest children.
Today, we honour this legacy in a special way: each of our rooms is named after one of his children – Nicolau, Fernanda, Merlinde, Etelvina and Maria José.
